Oh Monday, how you think you hold power over us. Yes, you are the start to another work week filled with meetings and deadlines and assignments, but on this week you are the start to a holiday week. Three days of work? You can do anything for three days. And to help remind you of that, read 1 Samuel 17. If you grew up in church, it’s a story you are familiar with, even if you didn’t grow up in church, it’s the story of David and Goliath. Here is a brief bit taken from that passage.
41 Meanwhile, the Philistine, with his shield bearer in front of him, kept coming closer to David. 42 He looked David over and saw that he was little more than a boy, glowing with health and handsome, and he despised him. 43 He said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. 44 “Come here,” he said, “and I’ll give your flesh to the birds and the wild animals!” 45 David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”
That passage just gets me pumped. David was a kid standing before a giant of a man who had been bred to be a warrior his entire life. David does not shrink and does not cower from the challenge, from the fight.
Let me be clear, you are not David in this story. This is not a “here’s how to fight YOUR Goliath” kinda thing. I offer this passage as motivation. David was able to stand toe to toe with a giant and defeat him because he trusted God. He knew who he fought for. He knew it looked like it would be a one sided victory and there was too much to overcome but David knew who he could trust in.
Today is just another day. It’s a short week. That same God who had David’s back, has yours. Go into this week knowing that you are not alone.
Today I am dropkicking Monday with a combination of a checklist, some coffee, and the anticipation for Monday Night Raw.
Even in the short holiday week, Monday can suck. How are you going to #dropkickmonday today? Leave a comment and let me know or hit me up on twitter using the hashtag.
